Hamden Hall Celebrates 4th Annual Girls and Women in Sports Day

Hamden Hall Country Day School hosts its fourth annual Girls and Women in Sports Day, a clinic for girls ages 8 to 14 that instructs young ladies in the fundamentals of several different sports.

The complimentary clinic on Sunday, Feb. 1, from 10 a.m. to noon, celebrates National Girls and Women in Sports Day, an annual event that recognizes female athletes and programs across the country.

Participants will receive hands-on coaching during half-hour blocks in some of the following sports: basketball,
lacrosse, soccer, volleyball, swimming and dance.  All clinics are taught by the coaching staff and varsity players of Hamden Hall’s premier athletic teams.

This is Hamden Hall’s fourth Girls in Sports clinic.  Last year’s event attracted participants from all over the Greater New Haven area.  The clinic takes place at Hamden Hall’s Beckerman Athletic Center on Skiff Street.  The program is open to the public; however, reservations are required.

“We are once again opening our doors to the community so that young women can learn about sports and to also bring about greater visibility and awareness of women’s athletic programs,” said Hamden Hall Athletic Director David Doyle.  “This has become an annual event that has grown in popularity with young ladies who are eager to hone their athletic prowess in any number of sports offerings.”

National Girls and Women in Sports Day is being recognized across the country on Feb. 4 by sports educators, coaches, athletic directors and others who want to show their support of female athletes and programs.  This year’s theme is “Game On!”

Hamden Hall Head of School Bob Izzo noted that girls of all skill levels are encouraged to attend the special sports clinic.

“One of our core values at Hamden Hall is participation,” said Izzo. “Hamden Hall expects its students to be active participants in the life of the school and this clinic is no different. We encourage girls of all abilities to join us and engage in this instructional and fun program.”
