Homecoming 2024: Hornets Moving Around the Hive

In what turned out to be a perfect fall weekend, the Hamden Hall community celebrated Homecoming 2024 in style with our fourth-annual Color Run, alumni gatherings, and athletic games over at the Skiff Street Athletic Complex.

On a sunny Saturday morning, students and families came out to the field donned in white T-shirts and sunglasses ready for the Color Run. As the DJ cued up the music playlist, all participants walked, jogged, or ran through rainbow-colored dust thrown by student volunteers. As part of this year’s theme Let’s Get Moving, participants finished out the morning with different physical activities including an obstacle course, jumping jacks and hula hooping contest, a Zumba dance instruction hosted by former Early Childhood Program assistant teacher Janae Staltaro, and more.

In addition to the games and activities, local businesses were on hand to promote different types of exercise and sports. The businesses included The Lab Branford, a youth basketball training program founded by Class of 2012 alumnus Victor Joshua; Pickle Spot owned by current parent Jo Ann Scillia in Orange, Conn., and The Studio at Guilford Center, a dance studio.

Throughout the day, Beckerman Athletic Center and the outside field stands filled with fans to watch the different athletic games including Girls’ Varsity Volleyball, Boys’ Varsity Water Polo, Girls’ and Boys’ Varsity Soccer, Girls’ Varsity Field Hockey, and Boys’ Varsity Football. The Parents’ Association members were busy grilling food and the Middle School Student Council sold candy as a fundraiser for the Keefe Community Center in Hamden.
It was back to the nest for our alumni as they returned and connected with their fellow classmates while enjoying an assortment of refreshments. Current and former faculty were also on hand to enjoy the afternoon’s festivities.

Prior to Saturday’s festivities, the fun actually started the week prior with school-wide spirit themed days and activities. The themes included Anything But a Backpack, Student/Teacher Swap, Class Color Wars, and Green and White Day. On Friday, each division hosted its own events with Lower School students enjoying an assembly performance of Bubble Mania followed by Field Day activities at Augur Field. Middle School students partook in trivia contests and off-campus trips to AMF Circle Lanes for bowling and then Beckerman Night. Upper School students enjoyed carnival games at the Skiff Street Athletic Complex and a highly competitive game of Powderpuff between the juniors and seniors,in which the seniors claimed victory. The students also enjoyed a BBQ and a viewing of Spider Man: Into the Spiderverse.
