Named for David Beckerman, who was a driving force behind the building campaign as well as a beloved basketball coach, the Beckerman Athletic Center offers a wide variety of opportunities for fitness programs and interscholastic sports, while providing a true social center for the school community. The facility was built in 2009 and dedicated in during a ceremony in May 2010.
The gymnasium features three collegiate size basketball courts: a hardwood main court arena with seating for over 400; plus two composite courts, which can also be used for volleyball and wrestling, as well as indoor practices on rainy days (including a drop down batting cage). A jogging track overlooks the entire gymnasium area.
The natatorium features a 25-yard, 6-lane competition pool with two diving boards. The spacious fitness center includes plenty of stations where athletes can enjoy cardivascular workouts on the latest equipment, while viewing sports and news on one of five large flat screen televisions. There is also 800-square-feet for serious workouts with free weights. Dance and Yoga classes take place in the nearby multipurpose room.
In addition to the athletic features, the BAC provides ample space for recreation and study. A large multipurpose room off the main lobby contains ping pong tables and an area for food and drinks. Further down the main hallway, there is a spacious lounge that includes a giant flat screen television, plus a bank of computers. There is also a conference room and a study room with another five computers, which are connected back to the academic campus on Whitney Avenue.
