The Hamden Hall's Office of College Counseling provides guidance and advice to students and their families in the college search. Our counselors' different backgrounds and experiences are assets as we support each student’s individual wants and needs in the process. Our goal is to help students find colleges at which they can be happy and successful, explore and develop their range of talents and interests, and grow to become confident, contributing human beings.
Post-secondary advising begins in earnest midway through the junior year and is student driven and student focused. As counselors, our first task is to listen; we aim to discover who the student is, what motivates them, and what they are seeking in a college education. We educate students about the many options and the ever-evolving expectations and requirements of the application process. We provide advice about scheduling, standardized tests, applications, recommendations, and decision making. We want the student to feel they have all the information and tools to end up at the right college for the right reasons for them.
It is our philosophy that each student should be guided and encouraged in this college planning experience. Parents are an important part of the process, and they have questions about how best to support their child. We provide regular outreach and education for parents starting freshman year, and we continue to communicate with them to answer questions and alleviate concerns throughout the entire college application process.
