Student Pioneers!

Premier Program Creates 'Culture of Innovation'

Established in 2012, Hamden Hall's exclusive Science, Innovation & Design Signature Program enables inquisitive, independent learners to pursue and study research topics of their own choosing.

SID is an extracurricular, interdisciplinary program that encourages highly motivated and intellectually curious students to excel as they develop a panoply of skills in scientific research, technology, public speaking, and more.

A culture of innovation is created as students work with faculty mentors and each other to undertake goal-oriented projects.

  • Students in our Science, Innovation & Design Program conduct photochemotherapy research in conjunction with Duke University's Immunolight Project to develop new treatment for internal cancers.
  • Students are involved in water projects that include spectrophotometry research.
  • Students are involved in carbon monoxide and radon detection projects.

Middle School Science, Innovation, & Design Program

Under the direction of science teacher Paulomi Aldo, the Middle School Science, Innovation, and Design Program (MS SID) provides interested students in Grades 7 and 8 the opportunity to develop their scientific knowledge, individual research projects, and explore their scientific interests in a more in-depth, hands-on approach.

Through this program, students will use the scientific method to complete observations, come up with hypotheses, and formulate a question that culminates in the design and execution of their own research. The program is open to all students with the overall goal of preparation for high school level courses while enhancing skills such as critical thinking, public speaking, and research and data analysis.

As part of the program, students have the opportunity to submit research projects to state-wide science fairs, but it is not required.
