The Middle School curriculum is designed to nurture each individual student while supporting the development of habits and study skills that are the keys to success in our rigorous academic program. We offer a range of choices that reflect the increasing maturity and individuality of the students, beginning with which language they wish to study and which sports they would like to pursue. From Grade 7 onward, students are placed in homogeneous classes for math and world language, including the opportunity for advancement into Upper School classes for those who are ready. At the same time, the small class size and close ties within the Middle School community provide a space in which students can explore their interests and express their individuality. Experiential learning abounds in subject-specific classrooms, but it is particularly evident in division-wide activities that include seventh- and eighth-graders and their advisors in authentic projects grounded in real-world problems, such as sustainability and immigration.
