The Hamden Hall Literary Magazine FACES has received the highest honor from the National Council of Teachers of English (NCTE), earning a “First Class” distinction in the 2024 Recognizing Excellence in Art and Literary Magazines (REALM) contest.
Under the advisement of faculty members Jennifer Manley and Tricia Dowcett, the student-produced publication showcases original writing and artwork. The editors for the 2024 edition were Class of 2024 alumnus Evan Heath and current junior Evelyn Liu.
The mission of the REALM program is to publicly recognize excellent literary magazines produced by students with the support of their teachers. REALM is designed to encourage all schools to develop literary magazines that celebrate the art and craft of writing.
“This is a well-deserved award as FACES is a testament to the creativity of our students and how our faculty nurtures that spirit,” said English Department Chair and teacher Paul Gustafson. “I appreciate the care and dedication the team puts into the magazine every year.
