Prestigious Music Festival Welcomes Choral and Instrumental Students

Our Upper School Music Department will once again be well-represented at the prestigious Connecticut All-State Festival as 12 choralists and one instrumentalist have advanced to compete following successful auditions at the Southern Regional High School Festival. In fact, Hamden Hall had the second highest number of student-selected performers from among all participating schools in the state.

Coordinated by the Connecticut Music Educators Association, the Connecticut All-State Festival will take place at Wethersfield High School on Thursday, March 27, through Saturday, March 29.

The choral student representatives include seniors Daniella Li, Sanjiv Persaud, and Jacob Schonberger; juniors Flynn Carney, Luca Correa, Alma Goren-Eisenberg, Evelyn Liu, Tobias Liu, Mae McDonnell, and Jiali Yang; and freshmen Kristina Carlson and Abella Cheng. Junior Andrew Yang was accepted for orchestra on violin.

“I am very proud of our students who demonstrate consistent vocal excellence,” said Upper School Vocal Director Matt Harrison. “Our vocal students performed exceedingly well in their all-state auditions, and we have the second most vocal delegates in the state out of 82 participating schools.”

Upper School Instrumental Director Melissa Hudson noted that this marks the second year that Andrew has been selected on the violin for the All-State Honors Orchestra.

“Andrew is an outstanding musician who has contributed a great deal to the success of our instrumental music program,” she said.

Mr. Harrison also noted that Jacob, Alma, Evelyn, and Mae will be attending the National Association for Music Education (NAfME) All-East Division Conference, which will take place at the Connecticut Convention Center in Hartford on Thursday, April 24, through Sunday, April 27.
