2007 Alumnus Meets the Challenge of Energy Efficient Practices

Creating a sustainable future motivates Class of 2007 alumnus Zachary “Zach” Ross as he works as a director at Opinion Dynamics, a consulting firm that specializes in research and evaluation for energy efficiency, building decarbonization, and transportation electrification.

In his position, Zach leads large teams of consultants who range from entry level workers to highly experienced professionals. Efforts entail working with utilities and government agencies across the United States to support a rapid transition of the economy to clean energy.

“I have a particular interest and focus on ensuring the benefits of the energy transition are delivered equitably to support low income and disadvantaged populations that often get left behind,” said Zach.

Zach graduated from Bates College in 2011, studying environmental economics and environmental chemistry. He noted that his interest in science and climate change developed while attending Hamden Hall, specifically in faculty member Dr. Bruce Zundell’s physics classes and later refined during his undergraduate studies.

Zach and his wife Meg, who works as a neurologist, live in Stoneham, Mass., with their 16-month-old daughter Naomi and dog, Lila. The couple met in college and enjoy cooking, gardening, and spending time outside together particularly in Maine. Zach’s family has a cabin on a lake in northern Maine and said they love spending time there as a family.
