Our Kindergarteners had a berry fun day learning about health and nutrition! After completing their classroom unit about fruits, veggies, and what makes a balanced snack, our little chefs got hands-on and made their own delicious smoothies. They even created their own chef’s hat and decorated a reusable smoothie cup to bring home!

As Constituent Service Manager and Emergency Response Coordinator for Congresswoman Rosa DeLauro, Lou offered students a behind-the-scenes look at how individuals and communities can influence legislative change. He also reflected on how the lifelong connections he made at Hamden Hall have supported him throughout his professional journey.

Our PreSchool and PreKindergarten students have been exploring biomes this semester. Each classroom dove into a different biome—the Savanna, the Amazon, and the Polar region—learning about the weather and animals that call these habitats home.
To wrap it up, students celebrated with a Biome Party! Themed games, exciting activities, and even a visit from their older buddies made it extra special.

During Spring Break, Upper School students and faculty embarked on an unforgettable journey to Italy, exploring its history, beauty, and cuisine. They visited Venice, Florence, Sorrento, Capri, Rome and more, enjoying gondola rides, historic landmarks, and cultural activities such as traditional dances and painting classes. We’ve just had our most successful year yet! For the past 38 years, Lower School physical education teacher Mark McEachern has led the annual Kids Heart Challenge, raising funds for the American Heart Association. Over the past few weeks, our youngest Hornets participated in a series of physical challenges during their gym classes, all while raising money for this important cause. This year, our students proudly donated more than $9,000 in honor and memory of our beloved Lower School faculty member, Claire Rich. In total over nearly four decades, Hamden Hall has raised more than $170,000 for this amazing initiative!
Way to go, Hornets, and a heartfelt thank you to our beloved philanthropist Mr. McEachern!

Three talented Middle School musicians participated over the weekend in the Southern Region Middle School Festival. Over two days, Kinan, Rafael, and Alina rehearsed and then performed in instrumental and choral concerts.
According to music instructor Sarah Reed, these types of supplemental performance opportunities allow our students to perform high quality music in large ensembles, learn from excellent conductors, and make connections with other student musicians from our region of the state.

Today our entire school community celebrated the longstanding tradition of our Lifers’ Shirting Ceremony and Valentine’s Bake Sale promotion! This year marks our 43rd celebration. We honored our five 2025 Hamden Hall Lifers’ who have spent their entire academic careers under the pines. (Wow!) Our Early Childhood students entertained with the traditional “C is for Cookie” song and “shirted” our Lifers with a special 2025 Bake Sale T-shirt! We also had a few alumni Lifers in attendance this year.

Lunar Celebrations Under the Pines!
Our halls have been buzzing with the excitement and anticipation of the Lunar New Year, and today we celebrated with a festive school assembly! Members of the Chinese Culture Club shared their incredible talents as they showcased Chinese culture and traditions to celebrate the new year. The assembly featured choral, instrumental, and dance performances. This event, which was organized by faculty member Margaret Wei, fostered cultural exchange and unity within our community. Grade 10 English class students showcased their creativity by creating original interpretations of a selected passage from Shakespeare’s “Hamlet.” Students worked together through a complex process of reading, editing, staging, and performing.
This initiative enhanced their understanding of the Shakespearean drama while encouraging collaboration and imagination.

The Middle School Debate Team recently participated in the Connecticut Middle School Debate League earning numerous placements and distinctions. The team competed in Parliamentary-style debating, in which they worked together with their teammates to argue the use of smartphones and smartwatches in schools.

As they learned more about the motivations of imperialism and expansion, together with their groups, they negotiated land claims and established different empires. They ended the lesson with a debriefing and discussion about the consequences that occurred.

Celebrating the winter solstice, our Lower School students explored new traditions as part of their science curriculum. They learned about the solstice’s significance and engaged in the tradition of making wishes for the new year. Each student wrote their wishes for “something good for the world” on small wood chips placed in a “wish basket,” which were then released into the world by way of fire.
Circling back to science, Lower School science teacher Emily Davies explained why the woodchips and basket burn and how the properties of water extinguish the fire.

Ms. Browne captured the attention of our young audience as she recited excerpts from a selection of her work including “Vinyl Moon.” After the presentation, Ms. Browne hosted a workshop for our students with a focus on turning stories into poems!
