Saturday morning dawned cold and drizzly, but the undaunted Hamden Hall Girls Varsity team hit I-95 and drove all the way to Dobbs Ferry, N.Y., to challenge the team from the Masters School. After a long ride, a rain delay, and still more time to sweep and dry out the courts, the contest began. Hamden Hall singles players- #1 Averi Schwartz, #2 Janie Motter, #3 Chrissy Lifton, and #4 Maddie Belt played some wonderful points, but in the end, all four were beaten in straight sets. The #2 doubles tandem of Chelsea Fusco and Shin-Hae Lee rallied impressively in the second set, but also lost in two straight. Abby Ginsberg and Lucy Greger-Moser, at #3 doubles, started strong, but in the end, they, too, lost in two sets. The sole win went to the seemingly unstoppable Massey twins, Morgan and Taylor, who defeated their opponents 6-4, 6-3. Even though we didn't win, we left feeling that by and large, we played our best.
