Senior Lifers Celebrated in Sweetest Time-Honored Tradition
Five seniors from the Class of 2025 have experienced all of the Hamden Hall time-honored traditions from the Lower School Halloween parade and Valentine’s Day Bake Sale, to sixth-grade graduation to musical concerts and performances to MayFest, and more. The longevity of their academic careers under the pines was recently celebrated at the Lifers’ Shirting Ceremony.
Hamden Hall has been recognizing its "Lifers" since 1966 - including the establishment of an official Shirting Ceremony in 1982, which helped broaden the tradition of the Valentine's Day Bake Sale.
The seniors who earned the “Lifer” distinction include Addison Letizia, Niko Millhouse, Neer Patel, John Raymond “JR” Wallis, and Frank Winters.
The five Lifers and their parents were invited to a morning breakfast where they enjoyed light conversation, sharing some wonderful old stories and many laughs. The soon-to-be graduates perused through a stack of yearbooks and took a trip down memory lane with a slideshow presentation featuring the seniors over the last 13 to 15 years. Photos included yearbook portraits, field trips, club activities, athletic games, campus events, and more.
As the students and their parents walked into Taylor Gymnasium for the all-school assembly, Head of School Bob Izzo greeted the group. He opened with a few remarks before turning it over to Director of Lower School Lorri Carroll, who shared the history of the Lifers’ Shirting Ceremony. Mrs. Carroll also recognized the Alumni Lifers who were in the audience, including Irma Felix Rappaport 1982 and Alex Acquarulo 2014.
Continuing with the sweet tradition, PreSchool, PreKindergarten, and Kindergarten students gathered on and in front of the stage to perform a few songs including the all-time favorite C is for Cookie. As the song finished, the Lifers’ turned to the younger students, who helped them put on the custom-made red T-shirt for the official ceremony. Senior Class President Sanjiv Persaud and faculty member Bruce Rich were also shirted.
