Historic Season Record for Girls’ Varsity Swimming and Diving

The Girls’ Varsity Swimming and Diving Team welcomed Convent of the Sacred Heart for a weekend match at the Beckerman Athletic Center Natatorium on Saturday, February 8. 

Sophomore Alessandra Sticca and freshmen Marina Lanese, Lily Micale, and Katie Popkhadza placed first in the 400-Yard Freestyle with a time of 4:59.97. Freshman Angelina Nicotra placed first in the 100-Yard Breaststroke with a time of 1:28.00 as eighth-grader Evie Allgood finished second with a time of 1:29.65 and freshman Vivian Martin finished in third with a time of 1:38.32. Angelina also placed first in the 50-Yard Freestyle with a time of 27.60. 

Eighth-grader Alina placed second in the 50-Yard Freestyle with a time of 27.90 and the 100-Yard Freestyle with a time of 1:04.04. Freshman Josephine Nicotra and seventh-grader Arianna Angarita battled in the 500-Yard Freestyle with Josephine finishing second with a time of 6:21.52 and Arianna in third with a time of 6:26.59.

“In their final meet before the postseason, the Girls’ Team took to the pool with fire and determination as they battled fiercely and showcased their depth, resilience, and team spirit, " said Coach Jen Lyman. “This meet was a testament to the team’s unbreakable unity and relentless drive and marked the culmination of a season that will be remembered for years to come.” 

Coach Lyman noted that the Girls’ Team finished with a record of 5-4, the first in nearly a decade. She also credited the team’s success to every swimmer who took to the blocks and said everyone is ready as the postseason awaits. 

The Co-Ed Swimming and Diving Team returns to the pool at the Beckerman Athletic Center Natatorium for the Connecticut Independent School Athletic Conference (CISAC) Tournament against Westover School, Williams School, MacDuffie School, and Marianapolis School on Wednesday, February 19, at 4 p.m.
