Co-ed Varsity Swimming and Diving Continues Its Legacy of Excellence at NEPSAC Championships

The Co-ed Varsity Swimming and Diving Team traveled to Wheaton College to compete in the New England Preparatory School Athletic Council (NEPSAC) Championship on March 8, with the Boys’ Team defending its championship title for the fifth consecutive year and the girls’ team earning the runner-up spot - the highest finish since 2015.

For the Boys’ Team, senior Anthony Ferneini broke school records in both the 100-Yard butterfly with a time of 54.00 and the 100-Yard Breaststroke with a time of 59.62. His 100 breaststroke time took down a seven-year-old Division III NEPSAC record, solidifying his place in the championship’s history. Junior Tyler Tagliarini placed first in the 200-Yard IM and set a new school record with a time of 1:57.73.

For the Girls’ Team, sophomore Alessandra Sticca, freshman Angelina Nicotra and Josephine Nicotra, and seventh grader Arianna Angarita finished third in the 200-Yard Medley Relay with a time of 2:03.23. Alessandra, Angelina, Josephone, and junior Julia Scalmani also placed third in the 200-Yard Freestyle Relay with a time of 1:52.07.
For the 1-meter Diving, seventh grader Russell Clune placed second with a score of 288.55 for the Boys’ Team and eighth grader Ava Rehm placed fifth with a score of 240.35 for the Girls’ Team.

“This team continues to set the standard for what it means to compete with heart, resilience, and determination,” said Coach Jen Lyman. “This season and postseason were nothing short of spectacular, filled with record-breaking performances, individual milestones, and team triumphs. To watch our swimmers and divers grow and reach new heights is inspiring. Their work ethic and dedication to the sport have been nothing short of amazing.”

Coach Lyman further noted that senior and team captain Eric Huang earned the prestigious Roberson Award. The award recognizes athletes who demonstrate excellence in leadership, sportsmanship, and dedication to their team. Additionally, several swimmers were awarded NEPSAC honors, which will be announced at a later date.
