Educating Students in PreSchool Through Grade 12

Middle School ADL Workshop

B. Christman
The boys' session focused on accepting differences, promoting tolerance, and recognizing that impact is more important than intent when it comes to the language we choose to use. Students were also taught the roles they can play when they witness or are involved in any type of relational aggression.

The girls focused on creating a culture of inclusion rather than exclusion, and their expert facilitator drafted a set of promises that the girls made to each other. Some involved simple behaviors such as eye contact and holding doors for each other, while others ventured into more complex issues that might arise between students.

This ADL workshop, which we have done on two other occasions, sets a great tone for the year and helps to promote a positive school climate. Our students have been given the tools to help each other create a warm, caring community.
