Girls’ Varsity Softball Wins Season Opener

The Girls’ Varsity Softball Team traveled to Rye Country Day School for its opening game of the season, winning 15-7.

Freshman and starting pitcher Chloe Carling took the mound for the Lady Hornets where she successfully struck out 19 players and only allowed one earned run. She also saw success at the plate with two stolen bases, one double, and one RBI. Eighth grader Caitlin Leslie went 3-for-5 with three stolen bases, four runs, and four RBIs.

Other top player highlights included senior Melanie Carling who scored four runs and stole a base while getting on base in five of her six plate appearances. Senior Mara Patterson had two runs and two RBIs, sophomore Rylee Swenney had two runs and one RBI, and freshman Hana Vining had two runs.

Coach Laura Montane noted that it was a tremendous game with a lot of energy. She further noted that every player contributed to the team win, and they look to continue this momentum throughout the season.

The team returns to the field for a home game against Miss Hall’s School at the Skiff Street Athletic Complex on Wednesday, April 2, at 4:15 p.m.
