1990s Alumni Raise Funds and Awareness for (A)Pizza Play
1995 classmates Lou Mangini, Ian Alderman, and David Solomon were joined by Class of 1997 alumnus Colin Caplan at a fundraiser last month at BAR New Haven for A Broken Umbrella Theatre’s upcoming production of Family Business: (A)Pizza Play.
Set to premiere this June during the International Festival of Arts & Ideas, Family Business: (A)Pizza Play feasts on New Haven’s rich pizza history with scenes that are inspired by real stories from local pizza pioneers. The play follows the Carbonizatto family’s pizza shop from its immigrant beginnings as it passes the shop down over generations.
These alumni have strong connections to A Broken Umbrella Theatre (ABUT). Ian Alderman is the executive director, Lou Mangini is a member of the acting ensemble, and Colin Caplan has provided history background on most ABUT productions, including Family Business: (A)Pizza Play. All three also performed at the fundraiser. While not connected to ABUT, Dave Solomon is no stranger to theater — or pizza. Dave is an award-winning New York-based writer and director working in both theatre and film.
When you attend Family Business: (A)Pizza Play this June, you’ll notice some past and current Hornets on the stage as well. Ian, Lou, and Colin will all be in the production, along with Ian’s son, Jonah, who is a sixth grader at Hamden Hall. Our theater teacher and director, Lisa Daly, also performed at the fundraiser and will be acting in the June production.
Hamden Hall Country Day School, located less than two miles from Yale University, is one of the best private schools in Connecticut to enroll elementary, middle, and high school students.
