Battle of the Bots in High Stakes Competition

The Upper School Robotics Team competed at the Vex V5 Tournament at the University of New Haven on February 8 and successfully qualified for the Connecticut State Championship.

The tournament welcomed 56 teams to compete in an engineering challenge that was presented in the form of a game. This year’s game was called High Stakes where teams competed in alliances to move a set number of rings to various stakes from around the 12’ x 12’ square field. Each match consisted of a 15-second autonomous period, during which the robot moved itself on the field and a one minute and forty-five second driver controlled period with students using the
remote to operate the robot.

According to team advisor and Upper School Math teacher Robert Link, the team did well in the qualifying round and advanced to the quarter-finals where they beat the second-ranked team. In the final match, the team finished in second place, thus qualifying to compete at states. The Connecticut State Championship will be held at the Total Mortgage Arena on February 24 and February 25.
