The Boys’ Varsity Water Polo Team hosted Hopkins at the Beckerman Athletic Center Natatorium for a match on Wednesday, October 11, winning 16-8.
Senior and goalie Connor Jermain led the team in the net with 13 saves and one steal as junior Anthony Ferneini tallied two goals, one assist, and two steals and sophomore Heath Schwarz tallied eight goals, one assist, and two steals. Sophomore Tyler Tagliarini and eighth-grader John Countryman added four goals to the board collectively, while seventh-grader Blake Zeitlin had one steal.
The team traveled to Deerfield Academy for a weekend match against Deerfield and Williston-Northampton School on Saturday, October 14.
In the first match, Connor had eight saves and Anthony tallied four goals, one assist, and four steals while Heath had six goals, two assists, and one block. Junior Eric Huang had two assists as sophomore Jack Cucchiarelli had two goals, four assists, and one block, and junior Calvin Gormley had one block to secure the 13-9 victory.
In the second match against Williston, Connor led with seven saves, Anthony had six goals, one assist, and two steals, and Eric tallied three goals, two assists, and two steals. Freshman Jehan Mody had one steal as sophomore Grant Evans had one block for the final win of 14-8.
“I am incredibly proud of how these student-athletes have showcased their skills, team camaraderie, and sportsmanship as they represent Hamden Hall at matches,” said Coach Martha Phelan.
The team record is now 9-1 overall and 7-1 in NEPSAC play.
The team has a busy week ahead with three away matches. The first match is against Choate Rosemary Hall on Wednesday, October 18, at 3:30 p.m., and the second match against Staples High School at 4:30 p.m. The team travels to Brunswick School for a match on Saturday, October 21, at 1 p.m.
