This year, Camp Hornet will provide five weeks of an outstanding summer camp experience with well-rounded activities for campers entering 1st through 5th grade. At Camp Hornet, we adhere to the philosophy that the key to a successful camping experience starts with each child having an enthusiastic and experienced counselor. We maintain a low camper/counselor ratio, and we provide a safe environment in which fun and learning go hand in hand. As part of each camp day, your child will have an instructional swim lesson and a recreational swim period in our indoor pool. Our Red Cross-certified swimming instructors evaluate each child to determine ability level and then develop lessons to improve swimming skills and confidence in the water over the course of each week.
To maximize the fun for everyone, Camp Hornet is divided into age-appropriate groups. Our youngest campers are introduced to the excitement of the summer camp experience. Understanding that camp often represents a set of "firsts" for children, we work with families to create a gentle transition for fun and discovery. Our younger program centers on a balance of structured activities with free play opportunities. Our younger campers thrive at Camp Hornet during carefully paced days balancing physical and creative activities with structured and imaginative play. Your child will be in a safe and nurturing environment supervised by adult counselors who have years of experience working with young children.
For older age groups, Camp Hornet is all about choices! Campers will have the opportunity to enjoy arts & crafts, games/challenges, water slides/water play, hiking, and nature exploration. Sports activities include baseball, basketball, flag football, kickball, soccer, capture the flag, floor hockey, volleyball, and tennis (just to name a few!). All equipment and instruction are geared to ensure the success of our campers.
For all ages,
Camp Hornet provides a unique and thoughtful approach to hands-on learning. Children will have the opportunity to design, build, and explore. From building with cardboard, recyclables, and paper to constructing unlimited projects or whatever they imagine!
We will continue throughout the summer with our special activities and theme days for all of Camp Hornet. The air-conditioned Beckerman Athletic Center (Skiff Street Campus) will serve as a "home base" for all of our activities - both inside and out! The weekly tuition is $385 ($230 for the shortened July 1st week). Campers have the flexibility of registering for any combination of one to five weeks between the dates of June 24th and July 26th.
Camp Hornet meets daily from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. For each day of camp, your child will need to bring a backpack with a snack, lunch, water, a bathing suit, and a towel all labeled with their name. Sunscreen should be applied at home and additional labeled sunscreen should be sent in. We highly recommend having your child wear a sun protection shirt as we are outdoors each day.
(PLEASE, NO PEANUT PRODUCTS!)
Our
Dungeons and Dragons program for campers entering 6th grade and above, through fantasy storytelling and role-play, provides the opportunity for campers to participate in the world's greatest roleplaying game. Has your child ever dreamed of being a knight or going on a perilous adventure? This group strives to be a unique outlet for creativity for all of its members. We supply all materials needed. The
Dungeons and Dragons group aims to foster in its members a love for the game, and the camaraderie that it spawns, in the hope that campers will carry this with them far beyond their camp experience. As part of each day, campers will have an optional free swim in the afternoon.
