The Boys’ Varsity Water Polo Team traveled to Choate Rosemary Hall for a double header match against Choate and Phillips Andover Academy on Saturday, October 5, winning both matches.
The first match against Choate was a nail biter that went into two overtime periods with the Hornets prevailing and winning 18-17. Senior and captain Anthony Ferneini had three goals and two steals as junior Heath Schwarz had six goals, two assists, and one steal. Junior Jack Cucchiarelli had six goals, one assist, and three steals and scored the winning goal in sudden death. Senior and captain Eric Huang had 17 saves in the net.
In the second match against Phillips Andover, the team pulled ahead to win 14-6. Freshman John Countryman had one goal and one shot block as fellow freshman Jehan Mody had one goal. Eighth-grader Blake Zeitlin had one steal while Eric had 12 saves in the net.
“Water Polo is building on our winning record and striving to keep our success moving in a positive direction,” said Coach Martha Phelan.
The team has a busy week with a match against Fairchester Athletic Association League rival Hopkins on Wednesday, October 9, at 4:30 p.m., and a match against Deerfield Academy on Friday, October 11, at 3 p.m.
