Graduate Honors and Awards for Class of 2019 Alumna
Class of 2019 alumna Kirsten "Shaw" Mettler graduated from Stanford University with honors and a Bachelor of Arts degree in political science and a minor in Feminist, Gender, and Sexuality Studies (FGSS).
During her time in undergrad, Kirsten worked on campus as a research and teaching assistant for Stanford Law School, Stanford's Political Science Department, Stanford's Communication Department, and the Stanford Graduate School of Education. Additionally, she worked for ChildFund International, Access Now, the National Center for Learning Disabilities, Penn Hill Group, and Wake Up to Politics.
In recognition of her thesis, Kirsten was the recipient of the Monica P. Moore Prize for Creative Theses along with being awarded the Cap and Gown Leader Award, which "recognizes outstanding student leaders at Stanford who support women's leadership and have demonstrated academic excellence, leadership, and service to their communities." Other awards include the Cardinal Commitment Leadership Certificate of Achievement which is "issued in recognition of completion of a yearlong commitment to service and excellence in fulfilling service obligation while serving in a leadership role." Additionally, she received a Cardinal Service Notation, which recognizes Stanford students who have a commitment to public service.
While at Stanford, Kirsten was a two-time Stanford in Government Fellow, which awards summer funding to students working in government and public interest. She also served as the Executive Editor for the school newspaper, The Stanford Daily, and the founder and Editor-in-Chief of Embodied, a peer review academic journal for undergraduates focused on feminist, gender, and sexuality studies.
In the fall, Kirsten will attend Harvard Law School as a member of the Class of 2026.
