      Middle School students prepare and serve a meal four times a year as part of the Life is Delicious community service project.

The Beckerman Lecture Series is an ongoing community offering that promotes engaging conversation about topics and themes that shape our world and impact our place in the global community.


Past Beckerman Lecture Series have included:

2019: Pardeep Kaleka & Arno Michaelis
Learn the story of an unexpected friendship between a Sikh and a former skinhead that allows these two men to fight hate and make a difference.
2018: I Am Shakespeare
A screening of the movie that chronicles the true-life story of 19-year-old Henry Green as told by filmmaker Stephen Dest . Green was a brilliant young actor and inner-city gang member in New Haven.
2017: American Science in the 21st Century A Panel Discussion with Nobel Prize Winners
A panel discussion with Dr. Sidney Altman, Dr. Martin Chalfie, and Dr. Thomas A. Steitz, all of whom have won the Nobel Prize in Chemistry.
2016: WWII Heroism Remembrances A Son's Tribute to his Father
Robert Kim Bingham Sr. speaks about his father, WWII Holocaust rescuer Hiram “Harry” Bingham IV, who helped 2,500 refugees escape the Nazi Regime while serving as the United States Vice Consul.
2015: Grit, Mindset, and Perseverance: Strategies that Work
Educator, author and keynote speaker Jim Grant focuses on tips and strategies for parents to strengthen a child’s grit, perseverance and work ethic and provides techniques for reducing an entitlement mindset.
2014: A Conversation with Faith Middleton
NPR award-winning journalist Faith Middleton and her senior producer, Lori Mack, tap into the theme "The Goodness of Ordinary People," a book of true stories from WNPR callers.
2014: An Evening with Dr. David L. Katz
Dr. Katz, a nutritionist and the founding director of the Prevention Research Center at Yale University, discusses his book “Disease Proof: The Remarkable Truth About What Makes Us Well.”
2013: A Screening of Nicky's Family With Mr. Ivan Backer
A movie and discussion of the inspirational and mostly unknown story of the Czech Kindertransport that rescued 669 children in the early days of the Nazi occupation. Mr. Ivan Backer discusses his personal experience on the Kindertransport.
2012: An Evening with Vin Baker
Former NBA basketball standout and Connecticut native Vin Baker engages audiences with an inspirational message based on his own experiences personally and professionally.
