Shut-Out Season Opener Win for Boys’ Varsity Baseball
The Boys’ Varsity Baseball Team opened its season with an away game against Greenwich Country Day School on Tuesday, March 26, winning shut-out style with a score of 9-0.
Senior and pitcher Gavin Lyons took the mound for the Hornets, pitching five scoreless innings and only giving up three hits. At the plate, junior Logan Charboneau broke open the 0-0 tied game with a two-run homer while senior Brady Chernovetz and sophomore Nick Criscuolo both collected two hits. Sophomores Amato Civitello and Nicolas Scillia singled at the plate while fellow sophomore Billy Cole drew a walk.
“What a great way to start the season,” said Coach Brad Chernovetz. "We had a successful spring training session and first game so we hope to keep this momentum going throughout the season."
The team takes on Putnam Science Academy for the first home game of the season at the Skiff Street Athletic Complex on Wednesday, March 27, at 4 p.m.
