Student Art Exhibit Honors the Hamden Hall Community

After taking a brief intermission during the 2020 school year, the art gallery is back open with a brand-new student art installation.

Located in the Moira Fitzsimmons Arons Art Gallery, the exhibit titled Now We are Here features colorful notecards strung together along the wall filled with thank-you messages dedicated to fellow school community members. The handwritten messages serve as a visual mark of the hard work and devotion of faculty members, support staff, sports coaches, and more.

Seniors Carolyn Qin and Lucy Liu, the student co-curators of the exhibit, wanted to provide students with the opportunity to not only share their art work, but create a platform for the community to express gratitude.

“Art is a universal available way to express ourselves,” said Carolyn. “Since we could not do an art show last year, our opening event showcased the creative, inspiring, and amazing community we have here at Hamden Hall. Given all the challenges and threshold of the past one and a half years, this installation brought together the whole school in a positive way.”

As the art show progresses, everyone has the opportunity to come to the art gallery and demonstrate their appreciation through designing a postcard with a few sentences or an illustration. The postcards will then be collected and displayed in the gallery and distributed to the addressed individuals after the event.

The installation is open for public viewing until the first week of November. Students are encouraged to submit their creative works in any format including 2D, 3D, fiber arts, collected pieces, photography, or writing for the chance to be on display at the gallery.

“The gallery is a place for inspiration, creativity, and imagination,” said Art Department Chair and Gallery Director Caryn Azoff. “Having student art work back on public display is delightful and brings a sense of community back to the campus.”
