The Boys’ Varsity Water Polo Team celebrated Homecoming weekend with a double header at the Beckerman Athletic Center Natatorium on Saturday, October 19, against Brunswick School and the New Haven Hydras.
While the team fell to Brunswick with a score of 21-18, the match saw a lot of great action and defensive plays from our Hornets. Senior and goalie Eric Huang had eight saves in the net as junior Heath Schwarz had nine goals, two assists, five steals, and two shot blocks. Junior Jack Cucchiarelli had four goals, two assists, and three steals; sophomore Jehan Mody had two goals with one assist; and freshman John Countryman had one goal, two assists, and one steal.
The Hornets were victorious in the second match against the New Haven Hydras with a score of 8-6.
“The team played with grit representing their school during Homecoming celebrations,” said Coach Martha Phelan.
The team stays home for two matches against Suffield Academy and the New Haven Hyras beginning at 4 p.m on Wednesday, October 23. The team will also be celebrating players Anthony Ferneini, Calvin Gormley and Eric Huang as part of Senior Night.
