Musical Talent Shines at Instrumental Winter Concert
Live instrumental music returned to campus Monday night as Middle and Upper School music students performed at the annual Winter Concert.
Gathered together in Taylor Gymnasium, the concert opened with a piano duet by two Upper School students, senior Tina Wu and junior Justinian Ding. Following the duet, senior Bailey Smoko and junior Jennifer Zou performed solos respectively on the trumpet and piano.
Directed by Gretchen Frazier, the Middle School Ensemble performed two classical music standards, Veni, Veni Emmanual and C Jam Blues.
The program continued with the Concert Orchestra and Upper School Ensemble, directed by Melissa Hudson, performing a selection of songs ranging from Joy to the World and Do You Hear What I Hear? to Tradition from Fiddler on the Roof.
The concert concluded with Baby Elephant Walk with solo performances by junior Julian Lord on flute, senior Bailey Smoko on trumpet, and freshman Philip Kim improvising on alto saxophone.
