Dante Tomassini Named New Varsity Ice Hockey Coach

Hamden Hall is pleased to announce that former collegiate ice hockey standout Dante Tomassini has been named as the new Boys’ Varsity Ice Hockey Coach for the 2024-2025 season.

Dante joins Hamden Hall with years of coaching and playing experience, most recently serving as the Head Coach for the Boys’ Varsity Ice Hockey Team at Daniel Hand High School in Madison. He began his coaching career at his alma mater, Assumption University, as the Assistant Coach from 2019-2021 where he worked primarily with the defensemen, ran practices, analyzed game film, and aided in the recruitment process. He was promoted to Associate Head Coach in 2021 and continued to develop defensive strategies while overseeing the special teams, practices, and recruitment. During his tenure, the team won the second championship in program history.

“Throughout my playing and coaching career, I have been fortunate enough to help young men develop their skill sets both on and off the ice,” said Dante. “I have coached players who have progressed to professional, junior, or prep school hockey. Additionally, I have assisted players with recommendation letters, master's programs, and job placements.”

As a student-athlete, Dante played for Hamden Hall during his freshman year from 2010-2011 where he earned Fairchester Athletic Association All-League honors. He transferred to Trinity Pawling School in Pawling, N.Y., where he played from 2011-2014. He joined the Hartford Junior Wolfpack in the Eastern Hockey League for the 2014-2015 season, further enhancing his skill set and preparing him for the demands of collegiate hockey.

Dante played at the collegiate level at Assumption University from 2015-2019. He served as a two-year captain and during his sophomore year helped contribute to the team winning its first-ever championship in the program's history. He earned several accolades including Defensemen Player of the Year and was named to the Northeast-10 All-Rookie Team and First Team All-Conference.

Dante now returns to Hamden Hall eager to contribute to the program’s continued success.

“I want to thank Bob Izzo, David Doyle, and Joe Fontana for their support in this journey,” said Dante. “The Hamden Hall community and its family atmosphere were significant factors in my decision to return. Without the opportunities and support I received here, I do not believe I would be where I am today. Back in 2011, I was blessed to be part of the first team to reach the Fairchester Championship game. My roots as a past student-athlete make this a full-circle moment for me. I aim to continue and build upon the program’s recent successes.”
